Friday Evening Ethics :

Ethical Boundaries Walter Selens, LMT, CST

This class will cover the latest marketing strategies, internet services, and mass media available regarding massage and how it affects us. How do we manage ourselves professionally, show understanding of our boundaries and limits, and continue to educate our clients? Sounds dull and dry, huh? Don't count on it. Audience participation is required.

Walter Selens has been in bodywork since 1988, a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist since 1993, a Certified Martial Arts Instructor since 1994, and a stand-up comic since April. Walter has taught A & P for local massage schools and hosted a TV show on Women's Self Defense. He brings his experience knowledge, and sense of humor to the class to keep it fun and educational.

Saturday: 9:00am-12:00pm

Cultivating Balance---Donna Kraft-Smith, LMT This program is an educational tool for bodyworkers that can be shared with clients to aid in understanding the importance of good body mechanics. Body workers are especially susceptible to headaches, neck pain, rotator cuff injury, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, and a myriad of other physical problems. We will explore the interconnectedness of the body and mind while resting, holding postures, and moving through space. We examine mindfulness, enhanced breathing techniques, postural alignment, and healthy stretching techniques. Tables required

Donna Kraft-Smith, NCB, has been working in holistic health care over 20 years. She is the owner of the Therapeutic Bodywork Learning Center in Bangor offering a high-quality schooling experience based in the principles of mentoring and apprenticeship. She is a long-standing member of the AMTA.

Drum-Making ---Lynn Orne, LMT

Unleash your creativity at the Retreat and learn to make and play your very own drum. Our body is comprised of rhythms, from respiratory, digestive, cardiac, etc., and emotional. What a great way to express yourself, by learning to play the drum. SO.....join me in this two part workshop of making and playing your drum. In Part I, I will teach you how to make a drum, select a covering and decorate it, unique to you.

Part II, The following day (so the drums have a chance to dry), we will make music together. You will learn basic rhythms so you can use your drum in ways to join in drumming circles, or healing and centering for your own therapy.

This workshop is a basic introduction to drum making and playing. Join the fun !!!!

The cost of this workshop is $25.00 per person to cover the cost of the supplies.

Massage Therapy on Trial---Roger Turgeon, Esq .--- As massage therapy becomes more and more prevalent as a treatment for connective tissue injuries suffered by car crash victims and others involved in litigation, massage therapists will find themselves interacting more and more with the legal system. We will explore this interaction through a combination of lecture and Q&A, which will cover such issues as choice of legal entity (to inc. or not to inc?), dealing with auto insurers, your potential role as an expert witness (including record-keeping, coordinating with other care-givers, writing reports, and testifying at depositions and in court), and malpractice considerations.

Roger Turgeon is a personal injury lawyer who has concentrated in representing injured clients since he graduated with honors from Harvard Law School in 1980. He has the distinction of having won a verdict of $5.3 million, the largest award ever given by a NH jury in a wrongful death case. His practice includes a large percentage of cases involving connective tissue injuries treated by ìnon-traditionalî means, such as chiropractic and MT.
